Mechatronics coin sorter

Myself and three fellow group members successfully designed and built our own coin sorting system.

The engineering solution required the coins of 3 various sizes, weights and materials to be transported 100mm from the loading location to the final deposit containers.

The whole system was controlled by the UI interface programmed on our own TIA portal logic blocks and ID codes. This allowed the user to select which coin type should be stored in which final storage after the sorting was completed. The system provided live feedback of how many coins had been sorted and what coin type they were.

To do this proximity sensors were used with a simplistically designed mechanical sorter. The temporary storage and final storage implemented a rack and pinion system. Apart from a limited amount of 3D printed parts everything was built by hand with great pride taken in the finer details.

Due to University rules, I may not publish the cad files or project documentation but may provide it to a credible source on request provided that they will not plagiarize my work.
